Our rural development programs in Liberia and Sierra Leone are similar except here we help people raise sheep rather than goats. Liberian farmers are also quite good at protecting their fields King David-style; fending off plundering birds with deadly accurate slingshots.

Our work here provides seed loans for rice and peanut crops–two belly-filling staples of the Liberian diet. We also drill fresh-water wells, build latrines and educate communities on sanitation-related issues.

We also provide sheep in Liberia, which can be a very productive animal if kept healthy. Though we’ve only been able to find 1 veterinarian in all of Liberia, we have him train the people in our program how to keep their sheep healthy and happy.

All this work is having a major impact on the country, and going a long way towards bringing stability, prosperity and peace back to Liberia.
